The name ‘April’ is of Latin origin, meaning ‘to open’, symbolizing the opening of buds and flowers in spring. It represents themes of rebirth, renewal, and new opportunities. It refers to the fourth month, sometimes linked to the goddess Venus.
In the Bible, April roughly corresponds to the Hebrew month of Abib, representing new beginnings, redemption and liberation. It is the month of Passover , marking the Israelites’ freedom from Egypt, and generally aligns with the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Oh, to be in England,
Now that April’s there,
And whoever wakes in England
Sees, some morning, unaware,
That the lowest boughs and the brushwood sheaf
Round the elm-tree bole are in tiny leaf,
While the chaffinch sings on the orchard bough
in England – now!
Robert Browning
